Cancer cases in India increased at an average annual rate of 1.1–2% from 2010 to 2019, according to data from population-based cancer registries.[1] Deaths from cancer in the country also went up at an average rate of 0.1–1% in the same period. These growth rates are among the global highest.[2] Shocking data came from far-flung of northeast, which the highest cancer incidence in the country.[1] These findings point toward underlying lack of meaningful research in field of oncology in our country. Power of research is fully realised, if it is open to all. We have to build a platform for Indian authors, reviewers and editors for accelerating scientific discovery and developing new solutions in oncology. It has become more pressing and pertinent in the past 2 years of COVID pandemic where oncologists had to adopt new means of technology to impart cancer care. Indian Cancer Awareness Journal is an endeavour by young oncologists to spread awareness regarding cancer. It provides rapid and efficient peer-reviewed publications on all aspects of oncology care including medical oncology, surgical oncology, oncopathology, haemato-oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care and psycho-oncology. The journal has articles in all formats such as review articles, original research, case studies, letter to editor, short communication and case base scenarios in discussion format for better understanding.
The journal serves as the ideal source to educate physicians, surgeons, dentists, nurses, students, social workers as well as other allied health professionals, patients and the general public in various aspects of cancer care.
With an editorial board of experts who are leaders in their fields, Indian cancer awareness journal aims at delivering the best communication on the fast moving and continually evolving, global oncology landscape. The first of journal contains six articles by experts from fields of medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology haemato-oncology and onco-nursing. I wish the editorial board and publishers of this unique journal, best for first edition and future.
